After Kate Middleton’s head scar was spotted in 2011, Kensington Palace released a statement revealing that it was as a result of a ‘childhood operation’, but did not confirm what kind of procedure the Duchess had undergone. John Scurr, consultant surgeon at the Lister Hospital in London said that the scar was unlikely to be as a result of a tumour. ‘I really doubt it was any serious medical condition and I would say it is as a result of an arteriovenous malformation – a birthmark – being removed. ‘It is remarkable, given the measurement, that no-one has noticed before,’ he said when fans first saw the scar in a picture when Kate was conducting her first solo engagement as a member of the Royal Family at Clarence House, in aid of Kind Direct.
