Strictly Come Dancing: England cricket star Graeme Swann confirmed as sixth star to join lineup

England cricket star Graeme Swann has been confirmed as the sixth celebrity to be hitting the dance floor for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking about taking part in the BBC show, the 39-year-old sportsman said he is looking forward to performing in front of an audience again, saying he hopes the pressure will remind of being on the field at the height of an Ashes series. The latest Strictly star was revealed on the BBC Radio 2 drive-time show on Wednesday, after Capital DJ Vick Hope was announced earlier in the day to also be taking part in the show.

He said: ‘It’s true – I’ve signed up for Strictly! I’m hoping to follow in the footsteps of the cricketers who’ve come before me who’ve either won the whole thing or had an absolute ball on the show.  ‘Keeping it under wraps from my kids has been nearly impossible; they are huge fans of the show and I can’t wait to see their faces when I tell them. I don’t have any background in dancing but can do the floss so let’s hope this comes in useful!’ ‘I spent my career enjoying the excitement of performing in front of crowds and cameras. It’s a bizarre pressure that makes you sink or swim and I’ve missed it since having to retire from cricket.’ Thrilled: The Strictly Come Dancing Twitter account also confirmed the news, posting a tongue-in-cheek message that Graeme would be ‘rising from the Ashes’

Legendary: The 39-year-old said he is looking forward to performing in front of an audience again, hoping it will mimic the pressure of being on the cricket field Graeme began his England cricket career in 2008 with a debut against India, and went onto become one of the team’s greatest ever spin bowlers, joining the historic team who took back the Ashes trophy from Australia in 2009.  Since retiring from the sport in 2013, Graeme has also been a regular commentator for BBC’s Test Match Special on Radio 5 Live. He has also been married to wife Sarah since 2010. The couple have a son Willfred, seven, and daughter Charlotte, five.

Iconic: Graeme was considered one of England’s greatest ever spin bowlers during five years playing for the national team. He retired from the sport in 2013 This comes after Capital DJ Vick Hope was revealed earlier in the day as the fifth star to hit the dance floor. Speaking about the thrilling opportunity, she said: ‘I’m so excited about being a contestant on this year’s Strictly. I’ve always been such a massive fan of the show so it’s a huge honour to be part of this series…  ‘Dances like Ballroom and Latin are totally outside my comfort zone but I love dancing, it makes people happy – myself included… Twinkle toes: Capital DJ Vick Hope was revealed earlier in the day as the fifth star to hit the Strictly dance floor ‘To be able to perform every Saturday is such an incredible opportunity – I couldn’t be looking forward to it anymore and I will be throwing myself into it, working hard and learning from the judges every week.’

The news comes a day after YouTube star Joe Sugg was announced as the fourth celebrity set to join this year’s Strictly Come Dancing lineup.

Stacey Dooley is the eighth Strictly Come Dancing contestant (PA)Presenter and journalist Stacey Dooley has been revealed as the seventh person to join this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up. Speaking on the BBC website she said ‘I’m looking forward to throwing myself completely into it all. ‘I wanna get super fit, nail the routines, and live my best life in all the fancy outfits!” Stacey first appeared on TV when she took part in the BBC documentary Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts which was released in 2008. The series saw a group of fashion-obsessed people travel to India to see how clothes were made for British retailers. Her popularity on the show led to her starting her own series on BBC called Stacey Dooley Investigates. The success saw her cover various topics including poor working conditions, child labour and sex slavery in developing countries.

Other documentaries that she has worked on include My Hometown Fanatics, Stacey Dooley in Cologne: The Blame Game and Young Sex For Sale In Japan. She has also presented a show on CBBC called Show Me What You’re Made Of which saw British children experience the life child factory workers from abroad. In 2015 she published her first book called On the Front Line with the Women Who Fight Back where she talks about the various women that she has met during her time travelling and producing various documentaries. As part of the Queen’s 2018 birthday honours, Stacey Dooley was awarded an MBE for her services to broadcasting.

Stacey joins the current line up of  Katie Piper, Faye Tozer, Danny John-Jules, Joe Sugg, Vick Hope, Graeme Swann and Dr Ranj Singh, with more being announced soon.

YouTube star Joe Sugg is the fourth celebrity set to join this year’s Strictly Come Dancing lineup. The 26-year-old – who is also the brother of internet superstar Zoella – was announced as the latest star to join the BBC prime-time favourite on Tuesday’s Radio 1 breakfast show.

Announcing the news, Strictly’s Twitter account put out a post which read: ‘He’s swapping the Sugg life for the #Strictly life, and YouTube for dancing shoes… Welcome Joe Sugg to our 2018 line-up!’

Speaking about taking part in Strictly, Joe said: ‘I’m honestly so chuffed to be involved in the show this year!  ‘Not going to lie, I’m very nervous about it, it’s totally out of my comfort zone and I know it will be a huge challenge but that’s what life is all about I guess. ‘Funnily enough I’m writing this statement whilst on the way to surprise my grandparents with the news. They are going to be so happy which will definitely make up for any embarrassment or cringe caused by my questionable rhythm.’

The pair – who have previous experience in dance – join TV personality Katie Piper, who was unveiled as the first celebrity to star in the beloved series just hours earlier. Tragedy hitmaker Faye, 42, appeared relieved to finally lift the lid on the news as she admitted she was forced to lie to friends and family, while the Red Dwarf actor, 57, confessed he was ‘nervous’ about the upcoming stint.

Exciting: Faye Tozer and Danny John-Jules were revealed as the second and third contestants to join the star-studded line-up on Monday’s edition of The One Show Talking to presenters Matt Baker and Alex Jones, the blonde revealed: ‘I lied to so many people, it was so hard!’ When questioned on what she’s most excited about, Faye shared: ‘I’m most excited about the costume and elaborate make-up!’ She added: ‘Being on Strictly is literally a dream come true! It’s everything my 9 year old self ever wanted from showbiz and I’m going to relish every moment!’
