Fuelled by tequila, George Clooney tops list of highest-paid actors

Between 1 June 2017 and 1 June 2018, George Clooney made more money than any other actor has ever made in a single year, Forbes magazine has found. The star’s film-based enterprises accounted for only a fraction of his income, however, with most coming from the sale of spirit company Casamigos Tequila. In 2013, Clooney co-founded Casamigos with Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman, initially as a way to supply them personally with sufficient quantities of high-quality liquor. Last year, British multinational Diageo purchased the brand in a deal worth a £1bn dollars. “If you asked us four years ago if we had a billion-dollar company, I don’t think we would have said yes,” said Clooney when the deal was announced. Now 57, Clooney – who also became the father of twins in 2017 – is best known in the drinks world for his endorsement of the coffee brand Nespresso.

Clooney’s booze jackpot bumped Dwayne Johnson – who frequently tops the chart – into the second spot. Johnson doubled his earnings year on year, making $119m (£92m) from his involvement in multiple blockbusters, including Skyscraper and Rampage. Johnson’s Fast and Furious co-star, Vin Diesel, failed to make the top 10 this year, despite topping last year’s chart. Avengers stars including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans all featured, alongside non-American names such as Jackie Chan, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan. Clooney earned some $200m more than the highest-paid female actor, Scarlett Johansson, whose $40.5m total is thought to largely derive from her involvement in Marvel titles. She earned four times as much as Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman in films by rival comic book outfit DC.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle enjoy SECRET Italian getaway with George and Amal Clooney

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle enjoy SECRET Italian getaway with George and Amal Clooney

Local police were drafted in to make sure the royal couple were left undisturbed on their visit to the idyllic retreat on Lake Como, in Italy.  Clooney and human rights barrister wife Amal, 40, were among the stars at the couple’s May wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.  They joined the royal couple at their villa with 10-month-old twins Alexander and Ella.

Reports say Meghan enjoyed her time lazing by the swimming pool, and helping with nanny duties for the adorable twins, while Harry and George spent their time playing basketball with other friends. Around 15 guests are said to have attended the luxurious party – which went on until the early hours.

Rumours abound that Meghan will fly home to Toronto without Prince Harry to meet up with mum Doria Ragland.  Former Suits actress Meghan, 37, lived in Toronto before moving in with Harry and still has close friends living in the city. Kensington Palace sent a letter to Air Canada staff “asking that no one take Meghan’s picture or approach her on the flight”, reports Royal Central.

Meghan is also rumoured to be flying to Los Angeles in the coming weeks before returning to London for work in September.

Amal Clooney and George Clooney: Are the couple attending Princess Eugenie’s wedding?

The A-list couple previously turned heads at the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in May and now, their link to Princess Eugenie’s husband-to-be has been revealed. George, 57, is connected to Jack, 32, through business, as the hospitality mogul was previously announced as the UK Ambassador for his Casamigos Tequila brand in 2016. At the time, Jack said he was “thrilled” to be joining the team after moving over from his previous role at Tonteria, a Mexican-themed club in Chelsea, London. Amal, 40, and her Hollywood actor husband could be in for another trip to Windsor in October if they get an invite to the upcoming nuptials. Princess Eugenie, 28, and Jack, who announced their engagement earlier this year, first met whilst skiing in Switzerland.

Her father Prince Andrew congratulated the couple, saying: “Jack is an absolutely outstanding young man and Eugenie and he have got to know each other over a number of years, and I’m really thrilled for them. “I’m just completely overjoyed for them and wish them every happiness.” George and Amal put on a stunningly elegant display at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding, looking the picture perfect couple in their stylish outfits. The human rights lawyer showcased her famous fashion sense in a bold yellow frock which featured a statement tie in the back and cap sleeves. The chic number highlighted her slender frame and she paired it with a matching yellow hat with a delicate veil. Meanwhile, George looked dashing in a light grey suit, pale blue shirt and a yellow and white striped tie. The pair arrived arm-in-arm as they made their way past photographers and crowds into St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle to watch the Duchess of Sussex tie the knot with Prince Harry.

George recently miraculously escaped without any broken bones after being involved in a collision with a car whilst riding his moped in Italy. The Ocean’s Eleven star could be seen crashing into the front of the vehicle in footage of the crash, flying off the front of his scooter and onto the road. His helmet smashed the windscreen upon impact and he was subsequently taken to hospital before later being discharged.

The driver of the other vehicle told Italian newspaper Corriere della Serra afterwards that he was still in shock following the incident. “I couldn’t see anything,” Antonella Viglino said. “I was just started to turn, I’d only gone a little way over the white line. “I’m still in shock. It all happened in an instant.” He said he had recognised the actor as soon as he removed his helmet, adding: “I could never gave imagined that I would have hit George Clooney.”
