Gazza splits from glamorous businesswoman who helped him fight drink addiction

Paul Gascoigne has split from the glamorous art gallery boss who was credited with helping him fight his drink and drug addiction. Gazza enjoyed a string of dates with Sara Lovett, who admitted earlier this month that it was “early days but we’re having lots of fun”.

Things seemed to be on the up for the former England international, who admitted 2017 was a “really bad year” after his 22-year-old nephew died of an overdose. But the 51-year-old confirmed he is single again – even asking fans on Twitter to help him find a girlfriend. Sharing a topless snap, Gazza wrote: “I’m ok single and find me a girlfriend please.” Sara, 49, owns the Antidote Art Gallery in Leicestershire which opened five years ago and has exhibited some of the art world’s most celebrated figures including Lincoln Townley and Paul Oz. The pair are believed to have dated for a few months and Ms Lovett told Mail Online: “I was never a fan during his football days but I am now! He’s very handsome and really fit and tanned. “He’s playing lots of sport, tennis and table tennis which we’re doing together. It’s early days and we’re having a lot of fun. “He’s Paul to me and just a nice, funny guy who’s had a tough time but is coping better than his fans are led to believe.” The reportedly met when Gascoigne did a meet and greet in the same venue where she was hosting a pop up gallery. Last November £20,000 worth of damage was caused to her art gallery – forcing it to close for six months. It has since reopened with Ms Lovett saying at the time “it’s great to be back”.

Healthy-looking Gascoigne appeared to be back to his old self and moved into a Leicestershire home, which is 12 miles from his former flame. Troubled Gazza has battled alcoholism and has spoken publicly about his mental health issues over the past few years, with many worried about his future. But the former England man took to social media to announce ‘he’s back’ earlier in the year and has posted glowing selfies while telling fans ‘he’s feeling good’. Gascoigne has even been using his twitter account to share his own brand of humour, with a host of trademark jokes including: “Me pal (sic) can only sleep on stacks of old magazines. He’s got back issues. Hahah xx” It’s all a far cry from the star’s former battles with drink. Last May he posted a video about his ‘really bad year’ after his 22-year-old nephew died of an overdose. He said then: “I’ve had a really bad year for various reasons but I’m in the process of pulling myself together. I went cold turkey and got myself straight and now we are looking to get back to work in the theatres.” He also wanted to move back to North East to continue his rehabilitation. And it seems to have worked. The new-look Gazza – now sporting a beard – looks glowing with health in the photos. Paul Merson and Paul Gascoigne in their Middlesbrough days

But his new look has been called out by fellow Toon legend Alan Shearer, who took one look at his now thinning hair and tweeted: “Admit defeat Gazz and shave it all off!!! #embracethebald Gazza then responded with a picture of Jim Carrey as Lemony Snicket with the words: “Shearer man I think me hair and beard looks good man, don’t be that jealous haha xx”. Gascoigne, 51, has fought a very public battle with his demons and has had at least seven spells in rehab. Paul Gascoigne celebrates in his famous pose during the 1990 World Cup finals

Lasts year he was left with a bandaged arm after he was attacked by burglars as he bravely tried to stop them ransacking his neighbour’s home in Poole, Dorset. But with his troubles now hopefully behind him, he told fans a few hours ago: “Thanks for the banter an your tweets and I hope you like me jokes,if ya don’t keep it to yaself, if you do tell everyone hahaha I just love making people laugh xx”.
